Schaffe, schaffe, Häusle baue.

I don’t want to miss it to tell you about my house renovation experiences. A relative of mine had to go to an old peoples home, and I had to clear and renovate her flat in an old framework house without bathroom.

Renovation
Renovation

First of all I was trying to auction the furniture on online platforms. I managed to sell her television chair and sofa for one Euro each. Then I tried to give away the rest of the well preserved furniture, she was saving her whole life for, to charity. The churches wanted money to pick it up and even asylum seeker homes were not interested. So I had to engage a clearing company, smashing everything and bring it to the incinerator.

In the next step I was requiring quotes for the renovation on MyHammer. There was an enormous range in the prices. The most expensive offer was about 120.000 Euros. The rental income for the flat was about 500 Euros a month. So after 20 years you would earn money with it, if you are lucky with the tenants, and have no further renovations.

So I did as much I could on my own with the help of some craftsmen, I found at MyHammer. All of them had different life situations and political opinions, so they did what ever was possible to annoy each other and me. Sometimes they appeared, sometimes they did not. Additionally my relative got annoyed because I was so busy with her flat, and of course she was not supposed to know what happened. All together a challenge for the nervous system. But after several months and a lot of patience the three rooms were renovated.

Here the diplomatic version of those challenges.
